A team of 20 Scouts and 6 Leaders travelled to Wales on the Thursday before Easter. We  stayed at a Scout hostel in Bethesda, North Wales on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Good Friday brought poor weather and so we only planned a warm up hike into the hills behind Bethesda. Strong wind and rain from mid-day gave the Scouts plenty of practice with their wet weather gear. Good opportunities for navigation practice and survival briefings were had until the lowering cloud base later on meant cutting the route short but we still managed almost 6 hours. Saturday had two of the teams taking a slightly easier day with a 4 hour trek up to Aber waterfalls. The 3rd and final walking day had all 4 teams taking various routes to ascend 'Drum' in the Carneddau range. The 6 hour trek had spectacular views in all directions making this a fantastic finale despite sleet and strong winds at the top resulting in us taking lunch there in our emergency shelters.   Each day the Scouts made up their own packed lunch and helped prepare the cooked breakfast and evening meal - taking turns to do ALL the washing up! The final day saw the Scouts having fun in Bangor swimming pool before setting off on the journey home arriving at Woking around 8pm - Scouts and Leaders very weary.
