During August the Scouts volunteered to help RSPB Farnham Heath tidy up after their “Big Wild Sleepout” weekend. The Scouts were then treated to their own special camp by the volunteers and staff at the RSPB.
The Scouts hammocked in a secluded woodland area and cooked their meals over an open campfire. They were given a tour of the heath by the warden who explained the history of the land and showed them plants they could forage for food. During the tour, the Scouts saw deer and watched a buzzard through a telescope. At twilight the Scouts were given bat detectors and shown how to pick out different species from their calls.
