CUBS GO BACK TO BASICS…..

Date: 20th May 2024 Author: Tracey Daniell

I really enjoyed all of B2B, because it was fun to hang out with all the different Cub packs and do all the different activities. I was in Group 1 [aka the best group]. Firstly we went to fire lighting and branding. I thought branding was cool – or should I say it was hot! We got the metal letters out of the fire and pushed it down on our slab of wood and the letters appeared on the wood.

The second activity was… Backwards cooking with the Knaphill Cub leaders and St John’s Cub leaders. It was fun and yummy! We made a pizza burrito which I called a burritza, and a twister which we could put honey and brown sugar on.

The third activity was… Beaver whacking, which was learning about different ways to chop trees and how to hold an axe properly. We also did some bark tracing. Bark tracing is where you get a crayon and paper and push the paper against the tree and start tracing.

The fourth activity was… Den building which was one of my favourites apart from getting stung by mosquitos! For den building each team got: 8 small tarps, 2 ropes and 16 bungees. Unfortunately, we lost. But it still was fun.

The second to last activity was… First aid before we started doing some stuff, we were talking about our worst injuries, then we did the recovery position in pairs. We then did some bandage wrapping. I asked my partner to wrap the bandage on my knee and I wrapped it on his head.

The last activity was… Pioneering. We first learnt to do some knots, then there was a competition. We had to tie pioneering poles to a chair and put a bucket of water on the chair. Whichever team had the most water would be the winners and my team… WON which made us very happy!

I loved the Back 2 Basics Cub Camp. Thank you to all the Cub leaders and parents who helped organise all the fun activities for us.

I really enjoyed this camp.  We had lovely sunny weather.  We campd with St.John’s Cubs and ran a base together.  We did branding by heating up the letters in the fire and branding a piece of wood with my name on.  We made dampers and added honey & sugar on the top.  Very tasty!
