SCOUT LIGHTWEIGHT EXPEDITION CHALLENGE….

Date: 28th Apr 2026 Author: Tracey Daniell

Our newest Scout, Heather showed great commitment by joining our lightweight expedition challenge just 3 days after joining the Troop! Not only did she take part in our first all female team, she wrote a report about it.  Here is what she had to say…..

The lightweight challenge is a competition where you carry all your equipment, but if you are a practice team you only carry your day stuff. The team also has to plan the route and meals.

My team was myself, Imogen, Lyla and Ava.   Imogen taught us how to use a map. So we each took a turn using the map and not get lost. Also Imogen was teaching us all the phonetic alphabet and taught me how to assemble and unassemble a tent.

Saturday:

On Saturday one road was private so we took a very long way through a field and a village.
Plus it was very hard to do the map reading

We saw a brown and black cat – but weren’t allowed to touch it – and I named it Acorn the Scouts cat. Also I turned my water bottle into a water gun!

When we got to the camp we found a nice spot and set up the annoying tent. Next we ate 2 min Noodles with chicken flavouring.
For dessert we had custard with hot chocolate powder but one bag of custard powder didn’t work.

Once we finished, me and Ava went to do the nightmare washing up where we had to wait in a very long line.

We finally finished washing up then still had to go back as we still had more custard but we were called into a meeting to plan the route on the map..

Afterwards we saw all the explorers do an activity where they were all dressed up as Shrek characters.  Afterwards, all four of us played a game of cards then when to sleep.

Sunday!

I was last to wake up and it was wet and miserable outside but the porridge we ate warmed us up I guess.

Me and Lyla had our tent down quick and everyone in our group made hot chocolate.  Once ready, we waited to go and had a rock competition. I don’t know how one won.   Once we started walking we saw a beautiful river and field. We saw a gorgeous fat corgi, it was adorable!

Turns out there was an order everyone needed to be in and we had to wait 5 minutes to leave.  The golf course was amazing – even though we just walked through it.

Also at the campsite you may see a peacock!
