BEAVER PHEASANT CAMP! ….

Date: 10th Nov 2021 Author: Tracey Daniell

Our Autumn sleepover started with an intruding new recruit in the form of a feathered friend, or I should say fiend!  When I arrived at Birchmere & collected the keys I was met by a very territorial pheasant who wouldn’t let me pass!  He flapped his wings & pecked at my legs & was clearly unhappy I was there!  I gingerly made my way to the hut with him pecking at me all the way!  Thankfully he didn’t follow me inside but as soon as Kelly arrived he made a beeline for her! He clearly didn’t like adults much but wasn’t in the least bit interested in the Beavers.  He kept his beady eye on us as dusk fell, then strutted into the woods for the night only to reappear at breakfast the next day to seek me out.  Beavers thought it was hilarious!  Us leaders can now add pheasant wrangling to our skill set!

Beavers had a lot of fun with our Halloween theme, carving pumpkins, making ghost bottles, floating ghosts & skeletons & a Halloween themed scavenger hunt & game.

There was great excitement when we burnt the guys we had made the week before on the fire!  It was like a scene out of Lord of the Flies as they paraded the guys across the campsite chanting ‘Burn Guy Fawkes’ & ‘Burn him, Burn Him’ as they went up in flames!

This was our first night away experience since lockdown & a first Scout night away for all Beavers & our 4 new leaders—well done all!
