BEAVER SUMMER CAMP ….
Beavers had a fun camp to end the school year at Birchmere campsite. They really enjoyed using their mini-beast detective sets on Friday evening and found millipedes, beetles, spiders, wood lice, larvae & even a frog! After that they did work on the Scouts Against Malaria badge learning about how mosquitoes spread malaria and what can be done to prevent it. Then it was time for a sausage sizzle & making hot dogs for a late supper. They then had some free time before hot chocolate, stories then bed. All settled quite quickly – they were tired out! On Saturday they were awake early but stayed in tents until 7am. We were sharing the site with Sheerwater Cubs who kindly offered to cook our breakfast so they were soon tucking in to cereal, sausage, egg & beans. After doing the washing up they made pipe cleaner mosquitoes to finish off the badge & made bug hotels using power drills, which they loved. We then had a break for drinks and cake & celebrated Edison’s 8th Birthday and announced the Beaver of the camp – well done Esme. Well done to Andrew & Cerys too. Then as parents arrived tents were taken down & it was all over till the next time! Thanks so much to Miranda, Sam, Rehuel, Ross and Jenna for giving up their time to help run the camp.
Beaver Cameron, age 6 joined us for his first camping experience with Beavers, here’s what he had to say: ‘My favourite things at camp were the stories with hot cocoa, cooking sausages on the fire and sleeping in the tent. Thank you for a great camp!’
