CUB SKILLS CAMP OCTOBER 24…..
Last week the Cubs went to ‘Explore’ to ‘Skills camp’. We hiked from Gapemouth road car park into Explore camp site. The hike was long but it went very quickly. We stopped for snacks halfway. When we got there we set up our tents and unpacked and had a biscuit. We were then shown how to use a Trangia. Inside a Trangia is… You’ll have to come to camp next time to find out!! We used the Trangia to cook the rice to go with chilli, tortilla crisps and cheese for dinner. It was delicious. The next morning we used the Trangia to cook bacon rolls. We then washed up and packed up our tents. We then hiked back out of explore and to the canal centre where the new Cubs were invested and parents collected us.

My Experience at Cub Camp
What I like at the recent camp was the navigation which was very fun , I enjoyed walking through the forest and seeing the beautiful surroundings, I also loved the things I explored during the hike which I think I enjoyed better than last year, the other thing I really enjoyed was the food which was amazing. The hike was tiring but it was worth it at the end.
My Challenges
I didn’t really have any challenges but the only thing I could think of is taking a bearing from a path which was quite challenging How I overcame this was I took the bearing from the map and worked on the paths and successfully managed it.

We hiked carrying some of our kit in our rucksacks from a small car park in Pirbright to our campsite in Mytchett. We collected chestnuts on the way.
Once we got to our campsite we put up our tents and arranged out kit in them and then we went to collect firewood. After that we went to the sheltered area to set up the trangias ready to cook our dinner. We cooked our own dinner of Chilli and Rice which was delicious, even delectable! For pudding we had cake and custard. We were all pretty tired after dinner so went to bed.
On Sunday morning we got up and packed up our kit which took a long time. We then cooked our breakfast Osayi & Kit had a bacon roll and Renna & Hannah had an egg roll. After we had cleared everything away & helped to pack up the cars we started our hike back along the canal. We stopped at the Swingbridge at Mytchett and Hannah was invested along with the other new Cubs that had moved up from Beavers.
We all agree it was a great camp & we had a lot of fun—thank you leaders!
