FAMILY CAMP FUN AT BIRCHMERE CAMPSITE …….
Family camp is amazing! There are lots of different activities that change every year; from assault courses to painting there is a fun activity for the whole family. There is the Firebird Challenge with action figures and it is fun seeing what will survive the different obstacles that change each year. The food is lovely especially straight off the BBQ. It is a great way to spend a weekend.
My favourite part of family camp this year was the arts and crafts. I really enjoyed the electronic orienteering and the caving. I got the fastest times out of the Scouts. The campfire was really fun with lots of different skits and songs that made me laugh. I’m looking forward to next year’s family camp already.

Three Generations go to Family Camp!
It was a couple of firsts for me… first trip to Family Camp and first time camping with my mum since I became an adult…
It was absolutely fabulous weekend, from the moment we arrived. My mum and I pitched our tent whilst the boys chatted and played with their friends, then lunch.
Then let the fun and games commence… from firing plastic bottle of water 50ft in the air, to marshmallows on the backwoods camping, sharp shooting on the rifle range and like a scene from Robin Hood even archery and those who still had enough energy there was bungee slide, axe throwing and an assault course!
Having worked up an appetite (in between teas, coffees and biscuits) the catering crew and helpers had rustled up a banquet fit for a king and evens seconds for the most dedicated of foodies!
Then it was time for a quick tidy up before down to the campfire and a great singsong, led by Tracey, the leaders and cubs to keep everyone warm and entertained on the coldest night for a long time, going down to 4 degrees – brrrrrr a little chilly!
After a good night’s sleep, it was time for breakfast before packing up (parents and the leaders) and a great game of 3 words orienteering which was lovely out on the open common in the sunshine!
The morning was topped off by some friendly tug of war and prizes for the bronze, silver and gold for all the activities including the Firebird Challenge which this year was sending Action Man down the zip line in one piece – that competition was won by James M. and the trophy was huge! Congratulations!
What struck me the most whilst driving home was how much everyone enjoyed themselves – big and small, young and old trying activities for the first or reacquainting themselves with old skills (Alex aka sharp shooter). Not a thought of work and spending quality time with my boys, my mum and chatting to the leaders and parents without being on the clock or having to rush off – My mum and I have already reserved a spot for next year!
My final word, I promise… none of this would be possible with the incredible hard work and effort of all the leaders so a massive thank you for making it so much fun and enjoyable – we just loved it!
