NORMANDY CYCLING EXPEDITION ….

Over the May Bank Holiday, 1st Knaphill Scouts went with other scout troops cycling across Normandy.

On Friday night, we took a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. We got very little sleep and had to wake up at 4 AM!  After a good breakfast, we were off cycling at Sword Beach. This is where the British troops attacked on D-Day. We saw many memorials, and it was very touching. We cycled all day along the coast, passed Juno Beach where the Canadians attacked, and took a break for a crepe. We also visited the harbour at Arromanches-les-Bainsand then headed to the campsite.

After a good night’s sleep, we were off cycling to Omaha Beach, which was very fun. Once we arrived, we saw the memorial and had lunch on our way back we saw some more sites and had a crepe. There was also a treasure hunt to find different D-Day sites or war graves.

On Monday we cycled some more and then got our ferry back home on which most of us slept. It was the best camp I have ever been too. We cycled over 140 km over 3 days and saw some amazing sites , the best was cycling with friends, seeing all the D Day sites, and the Nutella crepes!   I would recommend this trip to anyone and I would do it again.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
