SCOUT EXPO 2026 – THE PEAK DISTRICT……

Date: 30th May 2026 Author: Tracey Daniell

Over the summer half term holiday Knaphill Scouts were lucky to have the opportunity to join Scouts from St.John’s Scout Group and Challenger Explorers on a 5 day expedition to the Peak District.

Here is Scout Heather’s report…..

Day 1
Mostly in a mini van the whole time but with friends. Me and the girls played phone games. We stopped at a service station to get lunch. You can eat what you can buy, you’re given time and freedom.  Once you get into the Peak District you have amazing views. Like mountains, fields and lakes.
Once we got there we explored the small village. There was ice cream, plants and shops where you could buy something. We were sorted into our rooms and we went outside to play games and had a water gun fight (because some of us bought water guns). Dinners are amazing, and we were told how to do the washing up routine.

Day 2
Breakfast was nice. Got ready quick. Went on a hike up a mountain with amazing views. There was a cute river at the start as well as steep hills but once on top it was worth it.  Got back and went to a river nearby. The water was cold but really nice. You can’t swim though but if you fall in you have to swim to save yourself. Dinner was amazing.

Day 3
The hike today was Kinder Scout. The views were to die for. Super steep hills, rivers and a decent waterfall (it was more like a water fail). The groups guided themselves with a map. It was pretty chill. There was a clean river so I dunked my whole body in and drank some. We stopped by a restaurant and the leaders bought us some ice cream. It was mediocre. Dinner was nice.

Day 4
Went climbing so I wore long trousers. The climb uphill was slow but we set up at a cute little place. There was a large plane and we were higher than it! The climb was super fun but also very tricky.  Then we went to a mine. It was super cool, cold and fascinating. I bought some amazing crystals.  When we got back we all bought ice cream. I bought a tub for £4 and it lasted me for 2 days.

Day 5
We packed up everything , then went and climbed one last mountain before leaving. The car trip was still silent. The meals were expensive at the service station.

Top Tips
•       Bring lots of clothes (I mean a LOT).
•       The games you bring matter. All we played was Cheaters.
•       Definitely shower.
•       Don’t be on your phone the whole time unless you are taking a photo.
•       Always dip your hat in water (a river/lake)
