SCOUT VOLUNTEERING ON WISLEY COMMON …..
On Wednesday the 25th of October, a decently sized group of 1st Knaphill Scouts ventured into Wisley Common to assist with tree removal. They all used a countless amount of tools to aid them, such as Tree Poppers, Loppers and more. Upon arrival, they were taught and briefed about what was going to happen. Then they explored the mass amounts of tools, picked up the one they thought would suit them best, and then dispersed out into the wild to do their duties. Some jobs included sawing trees that had been carried over to the sawing station, lopping branches and roots and popping and loosening trees to eventually start the cycle of popping, lopping and sawing. Overall, after a small interview with one of the scouts in the operation, they stated that it was a huge improvement from what the first photo looked like to what the second photo looked like. In the end, all of the scouts enjoyed it and they are looking forward to helping other people in need. After all, conservation is a very important thing when it comes to heathlands.

Well done Scouts!
Here is some great feedback from Surrey Wildife Trust’s Reserves Officer…..’It was an absolute pleasure having you and it was so nice to see how the scouts got stuck in and gave it their all. I have to say the teamwork was fantastic (and put our regular volunteers to shame) so well done to everyone and I hope they came away having learnt about what we do and had some fun.’
