SCOUT’S DISTRICT LIGHTWEIGHT EXPEDITION CHALLENGE …

Date: 31st Mar 2024 Author: Tracey Daniell

Last weekend, on the 23rd-24th of March, me and four other scouts set off for the district light weight challenge. This is a Scouting event that happens once a year. Our team (1st Knaphill) were part of the training team.

We took turns navigating. Though the whole team helped making sure we didn’t go the wrong way. The first day we walked roughly 9 miles. For dinner, we ate ” dry” foods, such as pasta and noodles. We cooked in trangias, these are simple cooking equipment that only need methylated spirit and matches. After dinner we washed up and plotted our destinations on maps tor the next day.

Oh the second day, we only walked 4.5 miles and took us an extra 20 minutes because we accidentally the wrong way!

Overall this was one of my favourite camps and I’m looking forward to joining the competition team next year.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
