SCOUTS’ MID-SUMMER OVERNIGHT AT THE ‘TRENCH EXPERIENCE’ BROOKWOOD …

Date: 22nd Jun 2019 Author: Tracey Daniell

Following a tour of the Brookwood Military Cemetery Scouts got straight into preparing and cooking their own and the Leaders’ Portuguese style pork stew on wood fires followed by setting up their hammocks in the adjacent wood. Later in the evening the Scouts enjoyed some video clips and talk about the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.   Having eventually rolled out of their hammocks in the morning the Scouts cooked a much needed breakfast of bacon and eggs – of course on wood fires again. The morning was rounded off by a presentation on the First World War with hands on experience of military artefacts. A great time was had by all – despite all reeking of wood smoke!
