SCOUTS RAF DUXFORD CAMP….
This was a brilliant camp and I would recommend it to all scouts. The first day we went to Gilwell Park, the home of scouting in the UK. We stayed in a lodge and slept in bunk beds. For our first activity we were given a map to explore Gilwell Park and answer quiz questions about its history using different information boards around the park. Then we had great fun grass sledging and we ended the day watching a beautiful sunset.
The next day we went to RAF Duxford which was amazing. There were lots of American and RAF planes. My favourite plane there was a Concorde used for testing for ice at high altitude. It also had a special nose that could change its angle by 17 degrees, more than any other Concorde in existence. We explored different hangers containing lots of different aircraft. My favourite military aircraft was the B52 bomber, which has a wing span of 185 feet and can carry 32,000kg of weapons. We also saw a RAF Hurricane take off on the runway and then perform aerobatics in the sky in front of us!
Thank you to all the leaders for a really interesting camp, we had so much fun!
